Buckingham Palace

The President of the Republic of Turkey and Mrs. Gül today commenced a State Visit in London to The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Prince of Wales welcomed The President and Mrs. Gül on behalf of Her Majesty at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Hyde Park, London, 66 Knightsbridge, London SW1.

The President of the Republic of Turkey and Mrs. Gül, accompanied by The Prince of Wales, drove to Horse Guards and were met by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The President of the Republic of Turkey and Mrs. Gül, accompanied by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh with The Prince of Wales, drove in a Carriage Procession to Buckingham Palace with a Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry.

Gun Salutes were fired in Green Park by The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, and at the Tower of London by the Honourable Artillery Company.

A Guard of Honour was provided at Horse Guards by 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards and at Buckingham Palace by F Company Scots Guards.

Her Majesty’s Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard and a Detachment of Household Cavalry were on duty.

The President of the Republic of Turkey and Mrs. Gül later drove to Westminster Abbey where His Excellency laid a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.

The President afterwards visited No. 10 Downing Street where His Excellency had talks with the Prime Minister.

Mrs. Gül visited the Royal Collection.

The Rt. Hon. Nicholas Clegg MP (Leader of the Liberal Democrats) this evening called upon The President of the Republic of Turkey at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh gave a State Banquet in honour of The President of the Republic of Turkey and Mrs. Gül at which The Prince of Wales, The Earl of Wessex, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent, and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent were present.

The Prince of Wales this morning received Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the French Republic (Sir Peter Westmacott).

The Duke of York this morning attended the opening of the Shell Pearl GTL project at Ras Laffan Industrial City, Doha, Qatar, by The Emir of the State of Qatar.

His Royal Highness this afternoon attended a round table discussion with members of the British business community in Qatar at the Four Seasons Hotel, Doha.

The Duke of York this evening attended a recital by the English Chamber Orchestra at the Katara Opera House, Doha.

The Earl of Wessex, Trustee, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Foundation, this morning attended a Development Committee Meeting at Bell Pottinger, 14 Curzon Street, London W1.
